Drummond Group Obtains ANSI and NVLAP Accreditation to Test and Certify EHR Software

By July 25, 2012 No Comments
Drummond Group Inc., a leader in global software testing, announced today that it has been accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a certification body for the Permanent Certification Program for Health Information Technology. Also, Drummond Group has been accredited by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP, NVLAP Lab Code: 200979-0) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to test electronic health record (EHR) technology under the auspices of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC-HIT).

“As we move toward becoming an ONC-authorized certification and testing body under the final rule of the Permanent Certification Program, both the ANSI and NVLAP accreditations are a step toward this goal,” said Rik Drummond, CEO of Drummond Group. “Currently, we are in the process of preparing for the ONC 2014 edition of EHR certification criteria and will deliver new testing and certification events soon after ONC issues its final rule and test procedures. In the meantime, Drummond Group continues testing and certifying the ONC 2011 edition within the Temporary Program as an ONC-ATCB until new authorization is announced.”

Permanent Certification Program separates the testing and certifying of EHRs. Organizations must apply to ONC to become an authorized certification body (ONC-ACB) following ANSI accreditation. NVLAP has been acknowledged by ONC, by regulation, as the Accreditation Body for Accredited Testing Laboratories (ATLs) in the Permanent Certification Program.

Drummond Group, as an ONC Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB) has tested and certified more than 700 EHR products under the Temporary Certification Program. The Temporary Program remains in effect until the Permanent Certification Program is in place.

Meaningful use of certified EHR technology is a requirement for eligible health care providers who seek to qualify to receive Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments as authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). As of this press release, the Final Rule for the 2014 Edition Criteria and the Stage 2 Meaningful Use program has not yet been released.
